CrossFit Games 2015: The Story So Far Recap

CrossFit Games 2015: The Story so far We have just finished up Day 1 of the CrossFit Games. What did we learn? Join me after the jump to see the breakdown of the Games for Day 1. Unconventional and Long .
That about sums up Day 1 of the Reebok CrossFit Games. This has been a staple for the last few years to have a few events outside the normal wheel house of most athletes and see how they fair. I’m a fan of this because it shows the true scope of testing the world’s best at aspects that they are not training for. Now it can be said that some of the athletes that have prior experience in the water would fair better (such as Khan and Kara) but you know what? Everyone has a background that might seem a little unfair. That’s life.
For that matter you could argue that athletes that had a landscaping and construction would be well fitted for Event 2 with the 500+ lbs. sand bags. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Event 1 Highlights: Female Athletes: Kara Webb is a beast. Like I mentioned in my espn article earlier this week, this women is coming back to get back what she lost last year. She was doing great all weekend last year before needing to withdraw from competition due to injury. This year she’s healthy and dominating. What’s really great to see is the events that she’s not known to be very good at and she’s crushing it. Anna Tunnicliffe was a beast in the first stretch of event 1 and it really pushed Kara throughout the event and when it looked like she would overtake her, once they put their boards down and returned to the water she put on the after burners and took the number one spot again. Anna ended up taking 5th in the event. Also just a note for people that are new to CrossFit. Don’t sleep on Chyna Cho. She’s has been working extremely hard throughout the year and if you see her Instagram you’ll see how much time she works on her lifts and overall capacity. Prepared to watch her be very sneaky throughout the weekend. Interesting to note Camille was in the back of the pack for the event. More on that later. Male Athletes: If you saw from my article yesterday I predicted Khan Porter to dominate Event 1. Although he didn’t win the event, he got in second in the event and Jonne Koski beat the rest of the field. Those two athletes beat the rest of the field by several minutes and put the division on notice. My boy Elijah ‘EZ’ Muhammad had a rough event but this being his first Games appearance, chalk that score up to a learning experience.  More details to come.
