Looking at many different types of strength training, there can be a point and rationale for all types regimens.  But a few things need to be considered-

1.  Can the trainer give you a in depth rationale based on physiology why the program can work for you?  Instead of trying to get bigger arms, how will it reach my functional goals?
2.  Does the program consist of range of motion and proprioception (awareness in space) drills?  If not, ask why.
3.  How much does recording workouts and stats play apart into seeing results?

With answering these three questions the athlete might just come away with a new perceptive to training...
