Why do we need it?  Life continually puts obstacles in our way.  It is how we overcome the difficulty that defines us.  Not how many times we fall or stumble.  While learning new skills or doing a WOD in CrossFit is no different.  We have to fight everyday to overcome pain and fatigue.  We have to continue to push our body and our minds in order to go past plateaus.  We are going for the apex or our highest point of physical fitness.  
Many athletes from every type of sport have continued to express the need for mental toughness or focus while playing the sport. Why is that?  Bill Russell I believe said it best when he said-

Concentration and mental toughness are the margins of victory. 

Tips to overcome ourselves-

Perform the action or event over and over in your mind.

Focus on the task.

Keep a positive attitude.

Practice the movement before executing 

Relax and have fun

*Every Round you must complete a different type of push-up including diamond, machine, clapping, with a medicine ball etc etc.
